Episode 11: Sandy Chung with Dora Khuu and Kiesha Xiao on Anti-Asian Racism in the U.S.

Welcome to the Pandemicene Podcast. In today’s episode, Sandy Chung explores anti-Asian racism and violence in the United States. Sandy hosts a conversation with two other Asian-American young women – Dora Khuu and Kiesha Xiao – about their experiences being part of Asian-American communities, especially over this past year. This conversation was recorded in mid-March, 2021.

Interviewer Bio:

Sandy Chung, a College Ten affiliate, is a Sociology/GISES undergraduate minoring in Economics. She plans to use her skills in technology to analyze the transformation of society and create a change for social good. She is currently an RA for College Nine (resides in Santa Cruz), but originally from the East Bay.

Guest Bios:

Dora Khuu studies Sociology at UC Santa Cruz. She attended middle school in the outskirts of Oakland, Chinatown. She is passionate about social justice and utilizes technology for social change. She has a small business “ShopMoonRose” where she spreads her creativity by crafting jewelry and donates part of her profits to different charities each month. For the past month she has been donating 20% of her profits towards the Asian American community.

Kiesha Xiao is a first generation, Chinese- American college student studying Mathematics at UC Irvine. She grew up in Oakland, Chinatown where she went to Lincoln Elementary school. Her family is heavily involved with AIWA (Asian Immigrant Women Advocates).
